Panama Insects

A free tropical insect resource for researchers and educators

email: identification@panamainsects.org

These are butterflies in the family Hesperiidae that I have recorded on Isla Colon. Each specimen includes collecting data and observations I have made over years of visits to the island.

Scarabaeidae

Chrysomelidae

Staphylinidae

Curculionidae

Elateridae

Cerambycidae

These specimens represent some of the more frequently encountered or interesting beetles that I have found in Bocas. Many of them have shown up at the moth light, and other have come to bait traps or have been found on foliage during the day; these data are included here with each specimen.

I am much more familiar with moths than with beetles, so I am in constant need of advice and identification. If you are a "beetle person" and would like more information about any of these specimens, please do not hesitate to email me:
