Field notes from Isla Colon:

This moth has caused me some confusion. I have a short series of specimens from various sites on the island, both males and females, and these specimens are clearly more in line with lichenea than the more common and more widely distributed Manduca florestan. M. lichenea is very similar to M. florestan, but its range is much more spotty. There are no lichenea records that I could find from Panama, but there are records on Boldsystems.org from Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil. It seems reasonable that lichenea would occur on Isla Colon.
